Singapore may host Miss Universe 2010, reported AFP
After the decline of Bolivia to host the Miss Universe 2010, several countries have been cited as potential hosts of one of the most important beauty event in the world. According to various sources, Bahamas, Las Vegas, Macao, Isla Margarita, Venezuela, and Palma de Mallorca in Spain sound as possible venues. Now, Brazil seems to have launched its initiative to host the pageant this year.
However, according to AFP news agency, Singapore could also be the venue of this year. Aw Kah Peng, chief executive of Singapore Tourism Board said it would be a great welcome to a very busy year for the country being home to several international tournaments.
In Singapore there is interest in large events and has plans to host the Formula One race and Youth Olympic Games have been successful.
The proposal was submitted by Miss Universe executives Webski Larry Parra and Jason, who met with Mrs. Peng, with the convention and meetings director Oliver Chong, and arts and entertainment director of the tourist board, Lynette Pang.
“Singapore is a vibrant business region with a huge tourism base would be a great welcome to our calendar of events,” Peng told the newspaper Hoy.
“If the infrastructure and financial commitment are in place, it is always possible that Singapore could host the Miss Universe contest later this year,” he said. Singapore hosted the competition in 1987.
